CHOI Wonjin is trying to communicate with the audience through the medium of photography. The usual concepts of photography are reality and objectivity. But unlike these concepts, from his photography, we can feel unique eyes of the observer.  His objects are not enormous or far away from where we are. Instead, he captures objects from daily life like vegetables, skin and high school students etc. His work has warmness and wit as he finds specialties among ordinary subjects. His work shows us visible worlds that we never realize before. CHOI has had over 10 solo exhibitions so far and his major series are ‘Skin, blurred boundary’, ‘Landscape’, ‘Front’, ‘The landscape met in my body’, and 'The limited landscape’.

 

최원진작가는 사진이라는 매체를 통해 관객과의 소통을 시도한다. 일반적으로 사실성과 객관성을 담는 사진의 개념과는 달리 그의 사진에는 관찰자의 독특한 시선을 느낄 수 있다. 그는 멀리 있는 대상이나 거창한 것들에서 작품의 소재를 찾지 않고, 채소, 피부, 거리를 지나는 여고생의 얼굴 등 우리 일상 가까이에서 찾을 수 있는 대상의 일부를 포착해낸다.

그가 바라보는 대상의 극히 작은 부분은 편협한 시선이 아닌 평범함 속의 특별함을 찾아내는 따뜻함과 위트가 담겨있으며, 우리가 미처 파악하지 못했던 가시의 세계를 보여준다. 최원진은 10 여회의 개인전과 다수의 전시를 통해 ‘Landscape’, ‘正.面.’, ‘풍경으로 만난 나’, ‘제한된 풍경’ 시리즈 등 폭넓은 작품 세계를 선보이고 있다.
